Completion of share sale of The Shell Petroleum Development Company Limited (SPDC) to Renaissance Africa Energy Company Limited (RAEC)
On 13 March 2025, Shell completed the share sale of SPDC, to RAEC. Completion followed approvals from the Federal Government of Nigeria.

Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCo)
Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company Limited (SNEPCo) pioneered deep-water oil and gas production from the Bonga field in the Gulf of Guinea where depths reach more than 1,000 metres. When Bonga began production in 2005, it increased Nigeria’s oil production capacity by 10%.

Nigeria LNG (NLNG)
NLNG is a joint venture incorporated in 1989 to produce LNG and natural gas liquids for export. It was Nigeria’s first LNG project. Shell holds a 25.6% share, together with NNPC (49%), Total (15%) and ENI (10.4%).
Shell in Nigeria by numbers
- Bonga is Nigeria’s first oil and gas project in water depths over 1,000 metres. It increased Nigeria’s oil capacity by 10% when it began producing in 2005 and has production capacity of 200,000 barrels of oil per day and 150 million standard cubic feet of gas per day.
- SNG operates a gas transmission and distribution network of approximately 150 kilometres, serving more than 140 industrial and commercial customers, mostly in Ogun, Abia, and Rivers states.
- Daystar has installed more than 50 megawatts (MW) of solar power for commercial and industrial customers across more than 400 sites in countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal and Ivory Coast. Daystar entered South Africa in 2023, to further expand its reach.
- With investments in mini-grids, solar home systems, solar energy systems, solar refrigeration systems and battery-as-a-service businesses, All On has 49 energy access investee companies with a total of $22.5 million in investments. It has delivered over 130,000 energy connections since its inception in 2017 through investments and other programmes.
- The NLNG plant at Bonny Island has six processing units (trains) with total processing capacity of 22 million tonnes a year of LNG and up to 5 million tonnes of natural gas liquids (LPG and condensate). Work is currently in progress on Train 7 of the NLNG plant which will increase the capacity to 30 mtpa.
